The Task: To make personal contact with your classmates to encourage them to get involved in one of more of the following activities.
The Activities – i.e., Communication Topics:
You can communicate about:
• Catching Up – just calling/writing to say hello and update contact info.
• Submitting Class Notes and photos for the website and magazine.
• Participating in scheduled events and networking opportunities and services offered by the Alumni Office.
• Initiating Toad get-togethers in various locations.
• Appreciating their involvement (e.g., thank you notes)
• Life’s major events (i.e., marriages, births, deaths, birthdays, etc.)
• Giving to the Alumni Fund – you start this chain of events by giving yourself. Our goal is 50% participation among ALL solicitable alumni. Some classes have more than 50% participation which helps to offset those that don’t.
Roles:
There are two roles or functions that Class Reps play:
1. Correspondent (by far the most important…)
2. Fund-raiser
When there is more than one Rep per class, it is a VERY good idea to choose appropriate roles amongst yourselves each year (according to interest and ability).
If you haven’t done so already, contact each other right away to divvy up topics.
The Term:
Every five years, during Reunion Weekend, Class Reps will have the opportunity to choose to continue or to pass the torch to another class mate. Ideally, new Reps will commence service at the beginning of the next fiscal year (starting July 1).
Why Class Reps are important to Thacher:
1. You add the personal touch that the Alumni Office cannot provide.
2. You help us update our contact into.
3. You build bridges to those alumni that are harder to reach.
4. You get the real scoop.
5. You expand our Class Notes, online and in the magazine.
6. You increase the financial support of Thacher.
7. You enliven events through increased involvement.
What you get in return:
1. Appreciation from your School.
2. Increased contact with old friends.
3. Sense of satisfaction from making a difference.
How to be a Tireless Tending Toad: Delegate! Ask your classmates to help by giving them something specific to do (see The Activities section above).
